In celebration of Black History Month, the rarely heard Symphony No. 1 (Afro-American) by William Grant Still will be featured. This was the first work written by a Black composer and performed by a major symphony orchestra. The "Romantic" Symphony of Howard Hanson, a champion of Grant's music, will round out the program.
